MEMO is a cultural research and production project that transforms territorial investigation into a collective device through the docufilm Memo | ArchivioPaese, a journey between past, present and future. Memo takes shape as a path through the archive of time, an artistic reliquary launched towards tomorrow, a poetic inquiry that crosses territory, eras and generations.
The docufilm becomes an act of resistance: it uses the technological medium not as fleeting consumption, but as a modern visual monument, a videographic archive, to imprint memories and gather reflections on our present and our future. Through a process of dialogue with participants that addresses questions such as "What would you protect from your present?" and "How do you imagine the future, and how do you hope it will be?", Memo explores the relationship between the biological, individual and collective dimensions of humankind, of its memory and of its approach to the time to come.
Passionately pursuing the idea of intergenerational encounter, and meeting with a foreigner, we seek to embark on an anthropological, cultural and social journey that reflects on the changes of a community, on what brings us together and what divides us, turning the villages and their surrounding nature into the stage sets that give voice and body to the stories of the inhabitants we meet along the way. We thus revive the territory, imagining how many stories the trees, the streets and the buildings have listened to over time, and questioning what traces we want to leave for the future.
Memo – Archivio Paese stopped in Ussaramanna, Sardinia, where the historical memory of the village became a docufilm, within the cultural programme of the 19th edition of the Internazional Cortoindanza Logos Festival, with artistic direction by Simonetta Pusceddu. The initiative stems from an artistic residency focused on "circuitazione" (circulation), capable of establishing a profound connection between dance, contemporary art and the inland territories of Sardinia. Thanks to an effective network device, the project links artistic production with the regional platform and important national institutions (such as Ce.D.A.C.). This synergy transforms the small village of Ussaramanna into a lively hub of choreographic and visual experimentation open to the world.
A Living Archive: the role of the community. The beating heart of the work is the active involvement of the community of Ussaramanna, which goes beyond the role of mere spectator to become an essential ingredient of the docufilm. Through a call to share memory, and to reflect on the present and the future, the inhabitants offered in person their stories, oral memories, historical recollections and material traces of their collective lived experience. During the creative residency, this precious human material was recorded and processed by the artists. The private memory of the villagers was thus transformed into a shared visual and choreographic heritage, conceived to safeguard the identity of the ancient village and project it towards the future.
