CONTEMPORARY DANCE
THE SHAPESHIFTING BODY
"When we are not in conflict with the form, the boundary and the limit are the places where we begin to be" from the book ’The spacious body’
The research emphasises transformative experience as creative appropriation of the limit. The practice is developed by alternating exercises (repetitions, sequences, partnering, etc.) and improvisation, with a focus on musicality, phrasing and rhythm. The desire is to share tools and ways of discovering one's own music, praising eclecticism, versatility and multitude, and then to share one's own melodies with the group.a work that, starting from the notions of gravity, weight, spirals and distribution of muscle tone, wishes to search for body sound waves, accents, qualities and thus arrive at intentions, emotions and situations of collective composition.
Specifically, the structure alternates more dynamic and energetic moments with times of meditation and breathing, crossing different collective imaginaries. Entering into a flow of research, the intention is to arrive at a dialogue with one's own feelings and emotions, as ‘experiences of tension’, listening to the interaction between emotional stimuli, motor configurations and variations in muscle tone. The foundations for delving into creative work are the understanding of gravity, weight, the opposition of forces, the physiology and anatomy of the body in relation to space, and the regulation of tonic tensions, and then delving into music, rhythm, ritual and the colourful spectrum of collective dance.
The work proposes:
- A warm-up contaminated by different practices that focus on awareness, proprioception and fascia activation. (breathing exercises, Mindfulness and physical preparation exercises for dancers contaminated by practices such as BASI Pilates)
- Exploration of the notions of weight and gravity (ground work, muscle tone, spirals, coordination, floorwork...)
- Improvisation: exploration of multiple and/or opposing emotional and psycho-physical qualities and states through play and imagination
- Musicality and rhythm
- Bodies and space, notions of studying directionality
- Partnering and contact exercises
