SANTO PABLO KRAPPMANN
Santo-Pablo is a visual artist working in the world of film and live arts.
He was born in Germany in an old wooden wagon in the small theatre-circus Soluna, and travelled around Europe with his family, performing from an early age.
He then moves to Vienna where he graduates in the professional apprenticeship of the carpentry school.
In 2021 he graduated with honours as a set and costume designer at the University of Applied Arts - Angewandte in Vienna (AUT).
He works for theatre, opera, contemporary dance and film.
Among the organisations he collaborates with are the Graz Opera, Tanzquartier Wien, Architekturzentrum (AT), and festivals such as Salzburger Festspiele, Biennale di Venezia, Masdanza, Wien Modern and Viennale.
He collaborates with internationally renowned artists and dance/theatre companies such as Heike Hennig, Lot Lemm, Need Company, Oleg Soulimenko, Oltrenotte.
In 2019 he directs as director his first opera for children ‘The Magic Flute/Mozart’, which is performed at the Kunstunivarsitat in Graz (AUT).
In 2021 he started working in cinema, and collaborated with set designer Emita Frigato on several film productions, with directors Alice Rohrwacher, Emma Dante, Giorgia Farina, Salvatore Mereu, for the films ‘La Chimera’, ‘Misericordia’ and others in the pipeline. In 2023 he was the set designer for Sara Fgaier's new film ‘Sulla terra leggeri’ premiered at the Locarno Film Festival 2024 and worked on the short film ‘Allégorie citadine’ by JR and Alice Rohrwacher and the exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris (FR) ‘Rêver entre les mondes’ by Alice Rohrwacher.
Santo regularly holds interdisciplinary workshops with a desire to bring attention back to the history of materials used on stage, construction methods, and the craft of creation. His research is driven by listening and dialogue with different audiences. ‘Because only when we get to know each other better will we understand where we are moving towards’.
